About Us @
Great-Chinese Names.com

Welcome to Great-Chinese-Names.com!

This site shares the knowledge on how to select great, auspicious, and unique Chinese names - for your baby or even for yourself. It also promotes the use of Chinese names.

There is not a lot of information regarding Chinese name selection in the English language. The information available is fragmented. They are all over the internet. They are not substantial. They lack the depth of discussion on this topic. What is the best Chinese character to use? Why are some characters not suitable for us? How to select a great name?

Great-Chinese-Names.com seeks to address this. This site mainly discusses ways to select great, auspicious and unique Chinese names. Unlike many who only weave name selection information insignificantly into what they do overall, this website focuses in depth on this topic. It's obvious and it's the name of this website after all.

What does that mean to you?

Great. Here, you will get some understanding of family names, generation names and given names. You will also learn some basic Chinese language stuff. This helps you understand which character is great for a name.

Auspicious. You will look at the name selection method involving ancient Chinese knowledge. The four aspects of naming to balance - form, calculation, sound and meaning. This method helps you pick an auspicious name.

Unique. With all those knowledge, hopefully they help you, as a parent, in selecting the most unique name for your baby. Just as it has helped me.

As requested by many readers, I have also included a section to help translate non-Chinese name to Chinese. These are unique translation by me and not the usual transliteration you commonly find on other websites.

New addition in my services are business name selection and business logo consultation. Send me a message for further discussion and fee quotation.

This site is created, hopefully, to share this knowledge with a wider population. My emphasis is on selecting great, auspicious, unique meaningful Chinese name. If you find the information on this site useful, please share it with your friends too.

About the Logo and Tagline

Great Chinese Names Logo
As a website dedicated to Chinese names, the logo looks like a traditional Chinese seal imprint. This red ink stamp is usually used to print a person's name in documents or artwork.

The squarish (fú) character resides in a circle. Square shape in I-Ching (Yijing) represents earth. Circle represents heaven. This symbolizes the harmony of yin and yang ~ heaven and earth. Balancing the forces of yin and yang is indeed an important principle of Chinese name selection.

The Chinese character 福 means good fortune or blessing. This symbolizes the services offered in selecting Chinese name that brings good fortune to you and your family. 福 also represents my ancestor's origin city in China, 福州 Fúzhōu.

There are also the eight trigrams underneath the site header name. This represents strong association to I-Ching (Yijing) principles in the name selection services and other topics discussed here.

The tagline *Great, Auspicious, Unique name* represents the heart and mind put into every name selected. Everyone is different and unique, so must the name too. The name selected must be great in all aspects - the form, calculation, sound and meaning - making it auspicious and perfectly matching your unique personality and personal elements.

The Chinese name for this website is 福貴好名 Fú guì hǎo míng. It means good fortune, noble and good name. In short, a great, auspicious Chinese name!

Since we talk about babies and their names, guess I will show you my picture - as a baby. The picture on the right, that's me.

I started studying the most fundamental knowledge of Chinese metaphysics - the 易经 I Ching (Yijing) - in the early 2000s. This knowledge has later on built the strong foundation for me to learn Feng Shui, Chinese astrology (eg. Bazi) and other Chinese metaphysics knowledge.

My interest however is in languages especially selecting good Chinese names and characters. Hence, I deepen my research and study in this area. The knowledge of I Ching (Yijing) has truly helped me tremendously in this area. I have also realized that anyone who wants to discuss any Chinese metaphysics topic (including even the art of name selection) must first have a strong knowledge on Yijing. Without the knowledge of Yijing, there will be a lot of mistake in choosing a good name.

I speak a few Chinese languages - Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and my own dialect of Foochow. And of course, living in Malaysia*, I speak and write the country's national language, Bahasa Malaysia.

SonFortunately, with the Chinese names selection knowledge I have, in 2005 when my wife conceived my son... I didn't have to struggle (like most parents do) to think of what name to give to my son. It was all a breeze.

The systematic method helped to narrow down the thousands of Chinese characters, and I finally had a great, auspicious and the most unique name for my son. Unique because it suits him the best and complements the parents, astrologically speaking.

The picture here shows my son, Yicheng 義誠…, with his Mickey Mouse impersonation. Funny guy!

As my relatives and friends of my age group began to start their own families, the storks started to bring the babies. Their babies need unique names. And they knew about my interest and knowledge in Chinese names selection. From then on, I have helped quite a number of them in choosing the best names for their babies.

With the setting up of this website, I have been continuously receiving many requests from readers and business customers around the world (the wonderful world of internet) - to select great Chinese names or to translate non-Chinese names to meaningful Chinese names. I am grateful for these requests. It is really gratifying to help those parents or individuals. Meanwhile, your orders have helped Great-Chinese-Names.com to grow. And we will continue to expand the site by providing more contents.

May you have good health, happiness and wealth in your life. And your baby too.

Malaysia's rainforest is old enough to make Amazon seems adolescent in comparison. Powder white sand, and coconut lined beaches are common. Yet, the world's tallest twin towers await you at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). Discover this amazing tropical paradise, through a Malaysian frequent traveller.
