Good Chinese Name Meaning

Good Fortune Chinese Name

A Quick Guide For
Choosing Meaningful Chinese Name

To have a good Chinese name meaning, follow this simple guide.

Just spoke to a stranger over the phone? Wonder how he or she looks like just knowing the name? How do all the Christines that you know look like? Yeah, you will start making association if the stranger's name was Christine.

How about reading about a person's name in the newspaper? What kind of impression has the name given you? How would you imagine him to be physically?

Or imagine this. You pick up two rather similar books. Which author would you go for? Chances are you will go for the author with a more meaningful name. Most of the time.

And one day your child will grow up and sends his job applications in to companies. Will his name stands out among other applicants?

Think about the meaning or virtues you want to associate with your baby now.

Good Meanings

Want the name to have happiness and joyful connotations?

Or perhaps good moral connotations?

Want your child's name to sound intellectual and scholarly? Giving the impression that he is from a well educated family?

Wealthy and fortunate meanings? So that he can be charitable in the future.

Strong physique? Healthy? Handsome? Pretty? Beautiful?

Peaceful life?

And other good meanings.

Note that this is just a guide to selecting a name based on meanings. It is not optimized according to the number of strokes and the 5 elements concept.

And this guide is also not optimized according to other concepts in the art of Chinese name selection suggested by Great-Chinese-Names.com.

The Guide

First step
. Use the English to Chinese translation dictionary.

Enter the meaning that you want in English. In the example above I have entered 'glory'.

The first result shows 光輝 guānghuī. This is in fact a common Chinese name.

Second down the results list, you can see 榮 róng. This is one of the characters in my given name.

You may also use Google Translate to see some other translations for 'glory'.

Next step. Looks. A good Chinese name meaning must have good looks too!

See how the Chinese characters are written. Are they pleasant to the eyes? Not too complicated to write I hope. Most Chinese characters are very symmetrical. And they look great.

OK, passed your eye test?

Third step. Let it sound great. Do an ear test.

Read each word in the results list. See the pronunciation. Pleasant to the ears?

Take the word you want and put them together with the surname. Read them all together now. Sounds good?

Oh, many Chinese names have two characters (not including the surname). Pick another one if you have only one character so far. Repeat the First Step.

Perhaps, you want the 'glory' to be the most glorious! What is a good word to join to 'glory' 榮 róng?

Ah, how about 首 shǒu? It means 'chief' or 'head'. Like in Prime Minister 首相 shǒuxiàng.

So now you have two characters. Put them together and do a sound test. 首榮 shǒuróng.

How does it sound? Remember, a good name sound is very important. It complements a great Chinese name meaning, beautifully.
